Robyn Kahukiwa - Herald Review October 09

Robyn Kahukiwa's latest Exhibition "Power to Define" was featured in the Art Review section of the New Zealand Herald - 10th October 09. TJ McNamara says "Her work is about Maori and the interaction of Maori and Pakeha". " The paintings that feature only Maori are strong and simple. Tauranga Art Gallery presents - The Brown Years

In 2007 Nigel Brown gifted a substantial number of his works to the newly built Tauranga Art Gallery, which are included in The Brown Years exhibition. The Brown Years is Nigel Brown's story; it is also specifically a Tauranga story. Spanning several decades the exhibition maps Brown's development as an artist through his Tauranga imagery. Haydn: The Seven Last Words from the Cross Opus 51

In honour of the 200th annivery of Haydn's death, the New Zealand String Quartet perform his intensely spiritual Easter servcie composition "The Seven Last Words from the Cross Opus 51". The piece will be illuminated with poetry from Dinah Hawken, images by Nigel Brown and directed by Sara Brodie. Mind Games - An Exhibition of Surrealism in Aotearoa

October 11th - April Shin Review New Zealand Herald

April Shin's latest exhibition "At Dusk" was reviewed by T J McNamara in the Weekend Herald 11th October 2008. T J McNamara states.."This may be Browns Bay but the colour and hazy nature of the images, as well as the swirling brushwork, create a dream-like presence that expresses a warm sense of nesting and home".

Artists Talk - Nigel Brown features with Denys Trussell and Alison East

DATE: Saturday 11th October 2-4pm at the Art Lounge, cnr Lorne and Wellesley Streets. NIGEL BROWN features with poet and musician Denys Trussell and choreographer Alison East at the "Spring" Series, part of the public programme at Auckland Art Gallery. Nigel, Denys and Alison will talk about their landmark collaboration in the 1980's, with a subsequent further collaboration in 2004, "Dance of the Origin".

20/9/08 Liam Barr features in NZ Herald Art Review

TJ McNamara states "Liam Barr is thinking grand in a show, "Grand-Land", in which he seeks to combine reality and myth, history and the present. He has evolved a stylised Cubist Maori figure to represent Tane and taniwha".

December - Barry Lett - Awarded McConnell Property Supreme Award

Barry Lett has been awarded the McConnell Property Supreme Award for "Big Rock Dog" which is featured in the "Stoneleigh Sculpture in the Gardens" being held at the Auckland Botanic Gardens from 4 November 2007 - 31 January 2008.

December - Alan Sommerville - Sculptor, Australia/New Zealand

Alan Sommerville is a sculptor based in Australia who has built a reputation for major Bronze work. He was commissioned to complete the Australian Anzac Memorial Soldier for the Bridge of Remembrance on Sydney Harbour, and has just been commissioned to now bookend the bridge with a New Zealand Anzac Soldier on the other side. Our Summer Catalogue introduces Alan's work and includes a superb bronze "The Light Horseman" depicting a mounted First World War Anzac. Alan's work is on view at the Gallery, and included in the Summer Catalogue which is on show until 9th February 2008.

December - Eion Stevens - "Painted Poems"

Eion Stevens book "Painted Poems - One artist Twenty Poems" will be launced at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery on the 7th December with an accompanying exhibition. This is a lovely publication by Longacre Press which will make a fantastic Christmas Gift. Copies are available from the Warwick Henderson Gallery. Most of the paintings can also be purchased.

December - April Shin Features in New Zealand Herald Arts Review

April Shin Features in the New Zealand Hearld's art review on Thursday 13th December. T J McNamara says, "Each individual tile is a little painting in its own right but, collectively, they create an autumnal atmosphere shot through with occasional shafts of light. The colour is at its best in the many shadowy shades of green, russet and brown". April's show is open until 22 December 2007.

September 07 - Nigel Brown - Features in Art News and Art New Zealand Magazines

Nigel's new show 'Will to Meaning has been covered in the spring issue of Art News Magazine including an illustration of 'Salt and Clay' one of the feature works in the exhibition. Art New Zealand is also featuring Nigel Brown with an essay written by Denys Trussell on the 'Will to Meaning' exhibition.

September 07 - Philippa Blair - Exhibits at Torrance Art Museum - Los Angeles

Philippa Blair is exhibiting at the Torrance Art Museum in Los Angeles. The title of the show is "Themes and Variations: New Abstraction in Los Angeles. The show is an exhibition of abstract paintings and sculptures by 12 contemporary artists. The show runs from 8 September 2007 to 3 November 2007.
