GARETH PRICE
Gareth Price has been painting professionally for 12 years. His work is symbolic and draws upon the traditions of Magical Realism and Surrealism. He is concerned with the place a well chosen piece of art has in the home. It becomes part of everyday experience and as such he believes it important that it has great depth and strong aesthetic appeal.
Previous works have all been acrylic on canvas but now has been broadened to mixed media , including glitter. He has exhibited his work in galleries throughout New Zealand and his work is held in many international collections.
His painting " The Green Box Agreement" won the Peoples Choice Award at the 2012 Wallace Art Awards. He also won Peoples Choice again at the Corbans Estate open art competition in 2017. He was a finalist in the 2016 Molly Morpeth Awards.
Price's current body of work is concerned with how people adapt following traumatic life experiences. He makes reference to coping mechanisms through his use of geometrical symbolism. Price creates pieces to be hung in the home to invoke protection of the occupants.
