The publication of a single book of Eion Steven’s Paintings is long overdue. A senior New Zealand artist of over 30 years standing, he is a painter who attracts a cult following and at the risk of a cliché – is very underrated.
This book goes some way to remedying this slight and in conjunction with some of New Zealand’s greatest poets, the book is a gem.[read more]
The exhibition includes some outstanding paintings by this artist and all but a few in private collections are included in the show. As the introduction by David Eggleton states – "It’s as if things stray into view and rather than this being the result of a chance encounter, what is within the frame constitutes the mix’n’match elements of a parable, a predicament: shuffling his deck, the artist toys with us, then shuffles again". Eion will be in Auckland for the Exhibition opening and Auckland book launch along with many of the poets, whose poems are included in the book. The Poets in the book include Carl Stead, Denis Glover, Ian Wedde, Katherine Mansfield, Kevin Ireland and other leading New Zealand poets.
Eion will be in attendance at the Exhibition opening.
