On View Now – 13th April – 30th April

Our Autumn catalogue is now showing where we have a wonderful selection of artworks available from a superb Colin McCahon Landscape to Horace Moore Jones famous “Simpson and the Donkey” Lithograph.  At $595 here is an affordable Anzac day tribute to the brave soldiers who fought and those who were maimed or died at Gallipoli. This has become an iconic Australasian image and an original of this painting sold last year for over $400,000.

There is a wide range of works from many leading NZ Artists in this catalogue including Colin McCahon, Max Gimblett, Dame Louise Henderson, Kase Jackson, Robyn Kahukiwa, Darryn George, Hye Rim Lee, Justin Summerton, Nigel Brown and many others. Prices start from $375 for some works on paper.

New works include a painting of Devonport by Justin Summerton which is a precursor to a suite of Devonport works he will be completing this year. The Kase Jackson painting “Geraniums in a Crystal Vase” is a rare cubist work from a period during the 1950s when several of the leading NZ modernists such as McCahon, Louise Henderson and Kase Jackson were experimenting and exploring cubism. Louise Hendersons’ original prints “Engine Room Southern Cross’ and “Cubist Abstract” are also works in this style completed at a similar time. The McCahon landscape is also a key example of his transitional landscapes which followed his cubist paintings of the mid 1950s and 10 years later the wonderful flowing compositions of his “Headlands” and “Waterfall “series. This hillside landscape is a lovely painterly and deep tonal work which would make a fine addition to any serious art collection

The Nigel Brown painting “Whatever Love Whatever” was completed in 1986 to celebrate the passing of the Homosexual Law reform bill in the same year and as such is a significant artwork by this major NZ artist. Please note this painting must be viewed by appointment as it is not currently held on the gallery premises. Two new “Rain Forest” series works by celebrated artist Fatu Feu’u have also arrived in the gallery for this catalogue. Fatu Feu’u has recently been awarded a residency in Russia and we wish him well for this wonderful opportunity to explore and paint in this unique part of the world.

There are some stunning artworks included in this exhibition and we encourage you to browse the website and look forward to seeing you in the gallery soon.

Works included in this catalogue by Max Gimblett, Darryn George, Hye Rim Lee and Reuben Paterson appear courtesy Gow Langsford Gallery by special arrangement.
